WAMP: comparison with other protocols

#1

Hi,

I've started a "WAMP Comparison" page: http://wamp.ws/compared/

This page compares WAMP vs some 20 techs.

I do think the comparison table itself is already "correct".

The discussions of the individual techs. is incomplete.

Any help on that is welcome!

Cheers,
/Tobias

Hi Tobias,

i just wanted to thank you and your company for taking the time to create WAMP and all of the supporting information – the amount of code and docs available is really impressive ! plus thank YOU for the generous amount of time that you give to these forums.

i discovered WAMP late last year and knew that it would be a great protocol for my current project and also a good fit for Lua/Corona apps, so without hesitation i jumped on board.

i’ve been working on my pure-Lua WAMP library for the past couple of months. i’ll post details about it soon in case it can be of benefit to the community.

cheers,

dmc

That is good to hear =) Yes, it is a lot of work.

Awesome! It's cool to see more and more people jump onto the bandwagon. Each new WAMP implementation brings more power/choice to developers.

So thanks already, and please spread the word;)

Hello Konstantin,

i think my library is in decent shape, though i’m sure it’s rough around the edges since there isn’t yet a WAMP test harness i can compare against.

i had been using it for several months over the summer while developing my latest project. i’m still 110% committed to this WAMP lib, however, since since mid-Aug i have been mostly traveling and prepping for a move to another city so haven’t been able to do much coding on anything. (I’m happy to say that will finally change really soon because i’m anxious to get back to my project !)

NOTE: though the lib is 100% Lua, it’s coded to run in Corona SDK or my server-side Corona emulator, Corovel, since it relies on that event-loop-based environment. that said, there are plenty of support modules which are not Corona specific (everything is mostly a straight port from the Python version of WAMP). i think the remainder file(s) could be ported to another platform fairly easily.

here are some links for more information:

included are several examples to test publish/subscribe and callee/caller.

let me know if you have any other questions. thanks for inquiring !

cheers,

David

Sorry to resurrect an old post - have you done any comparisons of WAMP to Meteor’s DDP? They seem the most directly comparable - JSON-over-WebSocket protocols with PubSub and RPC, intended for some sort of cross-application use (although mostly for clients rather than servers in the DDP case).
